Howard A. Fergus KBE PhD is a career educator and leading Montserratian writer who has authored some 40 books and monographs in the areas of history, education, politics, poetry, and literary criticism. He has been published in the Caribbean and in Europe. Honours and awards include The Caribbean Writer Poetry Prize, The David Hough Literary Prize, the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence and a British knighthood. Dr. Fergus is a retired Professor of Eastern Caribbean Studies and has acted periodically as Governor of Montserrat between 1976 and 2009.  

Recent publications include Festival at Fifty: 1962 – 2012; Obama and Other Poems and Seven Chief Ministers – Montserrat: Sixty Years of Parliamentary Governance, 1951 – 2013; A Cloud of Witnesses: Some Pentecostal Pastors of Montserrat andSeptember Remember.  His seminal works include Montserrat: History of a Caribbean Colony, Breaking Down the Walls: An Evolution of the Extra-Mural Department of The University of the West Indies,1947-2000 (With Bernard and Soares)andA History of Education in the British Leeward Islands, 1838-1945. A Word n Season with St. Patrick’s Day and Mango Poemsis hit latest Collection of Poems.
